The family behind The Julius.

Julius Meinl — heritage portrait
Since 1862
From a Vienna grocery to The Julius.
One name, kept through more than 163 years of coffee, retail, real estate and hospitality. The chapters below are the family's story in brief — and the reason the fund exists at all.
Vienna · 1862
A grocery on a Vienna street
It began with a shop. Julius Meinl opened a grocery in Vienna in 1862 — a counter, a scale, and a promise that what the family sold could be trusted. The name above the door was the guarantee.
The coffee era
The name becomes an aroma
Coffee turned a shop into a house. The Meinl name came to stand for the craft of sourcing and roasting done properly — a daily ritual, repeated for decades, until the name and the quality were the same thing. What the family learned then still holds: quality is an operating discipline, not a slogan.
Retail & real estate
Own the walls, not only the counter
The family's attention moved from what was sold to where it was sold. Retail grew into real estate; the Meinls became owners of the buildings, not merely tenants of them. Owning the walls became a family instinct — and the foundation of everything that followed.
Hospitality
Buildings worth staying in
The same instinct carried the family into hospitality: buy prime buildings in European capital cities, convert them into luxury hotel residences, and operate them under the family's own brand. Own, develop, operate — with the family name on the door.

The Julius today
The family's houses, open to investors
The Julius carries the name into its present tense: the flagship in Prague operating, Budapest operating, Bucharest opening, Berlin in development. Through Julius Meinl Living, the family owns, develops and operates its houses — and through The Julius Fund, qualified investors take part in the family's own assets.

The current generation
“Investors invest alongside the Meinl family, in the family's own assets.”
The line above is the whole proposition. The Julius Fund invests primarily in class C shares and bonds of Julius Meinl Living Plc — the company through which the family owns, develops and operates its hotel residences.
The same buildings, the same brand, the same name over the door. When investors enter, they stand where the family already stands.
What the family keeps
Three things that do not change.
01
Heritage
A name carried for more than 163 years is not a branding exercise — it is a responsibility the family chooses to keep. Every house that opens under the Meinl name puts the whole history behind it on the line.
02
Ownership
The family owns what it operates and operates what it owns. Own, develop, operate is not a strategy written for a prospectus — it is how the Meinls have handled buildings for generations.
03
Craftsmanship
From roasting coffee to residences designed with Matteo Thun & Partners, the standard is the same: patient work, honest materials, details that outlast fashion.
